Pam Payne

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?

I started my journey on October 9, 2017. A running buddy (Alonda) convinced me to come to “Bring a Friend Day” and I absolutely loved it. It was so awesome how welcoming everyone was.

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?

What prevented me from joining sooner was a lack of knowledge and fear. I really didn’t know the “Box” existed and was afraid of not being able to keep up. I would see Alonda a couple times a week and she would tell me how she loved Crossfit; how she was learning new things and seeing results and she looked amazing. I wanted that…I called my running buddy and she contacted Alex and here I am ‘-)

What do you love most about CFSL?

OMG, where do I start! I have met so many amazing people, I’m learning and continuing to learn so much and I don’t feel judged. There is something new everyday, a new challenge called a WOD to allow you show your greatness. I look good…kmsl no for real I do. We have some of the most amazing coaches/members who always seem to keep me motivated and inspired even when I have my meltdowns, feel like I’m losing focus or off my game. This is home away from home, my “Me Time…”

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?

My confidence, I’m stronger, calmer, and with the help of my running buddies “My Running Game!” My nutrition has become so much cleaner. I fall off here and there but I have the knowledge to jump right back in.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! The Box is “Family away from Family” and if you want to learn, be motivated and be inspired by some of the most amazing coaches and members, CrossFit St. Landry is the place to be.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I Love being a CrossFitter, I want to gain everything I can possibly gain from it. When I turn 70 people are going to say, “Dang , that’s a fit old lady…KMSL”

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?

My journey with CrossFit St. Landry began almost 2 years ago (June 1, 2015)….and I’m still here.

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?

There was nothing that prevented me from joining except for the fact that I simply had no desire to. Never have I been “fit” or athletically-inclined. But I was planning my fiancé’s surprise birthday trip out of the country and thought, hey, I need to drop some weight FAST! So one day as I was driving, I noticed this building pushed back from the road, began asking a few questions, walked in, signed up, and it’s been all up hill from that moment on.

What do you love most about CFSL?

What is there not to love! I love everything about CFSL. Every one is so welcoming and friendly. Our box is one big family!! The coaches here sincerely care about one’s overall being; they are very knowledgeable about Crossfit.

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?

My initial reason for joining CFSL was to drop some quick weight. But now, I consciously think about my health, food choices, the way I bend down or over to pick things up. I can now run with my 5 year son. Most importantly, CFSL has given me a since of self- confidence that was lacking.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?

Of course I recommend CFSL. I’ve had several family members to join me at Bring a Friend Day. I’ve had a couple of co-workers to join.
At CFSL, there is something for everyone. CFSL is for the young, old, skinny, fat, etc. Don’t think that you cannot do this because you can. Our coaches are able to scale every movement to one’s own ability.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

No matter how bad of a day I am having, I try not to miss. CFSL is my therapy.
DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ANY LONGER; MEET ME AT THE BOX!

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
My journey with the CFSL family started before CFSL was born. My journey began with CFBB in January 2014. In march of 2015 when CFSL was born I slowly started splitting my time between the two boxes. (I live smack dab in the middle of the two 😊) once that summer hit I began to spend the majority of my time hitting wods at the CFSL box. I guess you could consider me an OG 😉
Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
I always thought that I couldn’t afford crossfit before beginning. Once I finally took the plunge I realized that I had always been able to afford it, I just had been choosing to spend my money less wisely (takeout food and silly things)
What do you love most about CFSL?
I love the fact that when I walk in every day I know I will be guided and taught by top notch coaches who care more about you doing it right than how fast you are or how many reps you get. The amount of time and energy that our coaches spend learning, studying, and getting certified in new things is amazing. They care about us as more than just clients. They care about us as family. In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
Before crossfit I couldn’t lift, do a pull up, or do a push up. While those are all things that you do in the box, when I learned how to do those things is affected me outside of the box. I could lift boxes and things by myself. I could hang from monkey bars and play with my kids. I could push things that I couldn’t push before (on multiple occasions I’ve gotten out of my car in Lafayette to help push vehicles out of the road). Now that I am pregnant I am excited to see how much better I am able to do having crossfit in my life. Just more reasons that crossfit will have improved my life outside of the box.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?
I would and I do! All of my friends know how much I love the crews at both CFSL and CFBB. I always tell them how they can come as they are and they will still be able to improve and do things they never thought possible.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I just want to say I have been 100% blessed to be a part of such an amazing community of people. From the coaches to the other members I went from living in a place and knowing no one to having a place to go every day where I get to meet and know so many new people.

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
I started in April of 2016.
Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
My concern was the ability to do all of the exercises but after meeting with Coach Bambi and learned about the program, I decided to give the program a try.
What do you love most about CFSL?
The coaching and the support of the other cross fitters. The coaches are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They also encourage us to do more than we think can be done. Love the comradery of all the other members and their encouraging and supportive attitude. They have driven me to finish workouts I probably would not have completed without them.In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
Just doing my day to day activities has become easier. I am stronger and have a lot more energy than I did before joining. My day to day moving about has gotten better due to strength as well as flexibility improvements. I volunteer coach youth basketball and this program has made it easier to practice with the kids.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?Yes. I would recommend joining to a friend because of the many benefits. Not only physical but mental benefits. I always leave with a great sense of accomplishment especially after doing something I have never done before. Great confidence builder as well as physical improvements.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
This is the best thing I have done for myself in s long time. I wish I had heard of this program sooner.
Also, I was able to stop taking Crestor and my flexibility has greatly improved!

16601949_1766792566974383_8932766808031617008_o

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
My interests in crossfit started because of Sal Vazquez and Eric Amy. EVERY SINGLE DAY these guys would come to work so excited about the hard workout they just did or the tough one ahead. I did not understand it nor had I ever known anyone to love workouts like they did. Over 6 months, the physical transformation that I saw with these guys was clearly evident. But I was just an out of shape, overweight girl that always failed at my diets or exercise goals. I was literally sitting in Mello Mushroom with a belly full of pizza and cookie cake when my wonderful friend Chrissy Lalonde sent me a text inviting me to “bring a friend day” at CrossFit Saint Landry in 3hrs. I thought Now or Never. I was so close to puking during that WOD! Even though I was the most unfit person there, everyone made me feel welcome. The athletes there, including my friend Chrissy, didn’t seem to intimidate me but truly inspired me!

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
I felt bad about spending that much money on myself for something I probably wouldn’t stick with. Turns out that my direct TV bill was the same as Crossfit, so I cancelled it. My past had told me that like every other effort, I would start and not succeed or not stick to it. It has been over 1.5 years since I started and I really hate it when I have to miss. I remember thinking I was no where near ready for that kind of training…like I would need to get in shape before I walked into crossfit. It’s kind of like your relationship with Jesus…Come as you are. Just as Jesus accepts you as the mess we all are, so does CrossFit St. Landry. Give your life to Jesus and he transforms you. Get to the box and do the work the coaches have for you and it will transform your life.

What do you love most about CFSL?
There is something unexplanable about CFSL…how can so many normal people like the coaches and members be so inspiring? Inspiring enough to change lifelong habits for each and every person that comes! I truly love all our coaches. But probably the best thing is getting to witness so many people having such positive changes in there life. How cool is it to watch countless people come in with such little self confidence and such little strength to turn into the “motivator” for the group who has gotten stronger than they ever have been? It’s just awesome to be a part of CFSL

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
I’m a mother of 3 boys which I have always been so proud of each of them, but now they are very proud of me. Our relationships are even better because we have a lot more things to talk about. My youngest son asked for Crossfit for Christmas,. Just seeing him wake up at 4:30am to come workout with me is truly amazing. I’m so much more physically stronger which has helped with moving patients and pushing stretchers. Before I started, my back would hurt after just a little while of working in my flower beds or bathing my dog. Within 3 months of doing CF I bathed my dog and pulled weeds with no back pain whatsoever. But I’m also spiritually stronger because DAILY I feel like I can’t do these WODs, and DAILY God helps me finish these workouts. I think when you “suffer” with people then there are bonds that form. So I have many friendships that have grown because of CFSL.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?
YES! Come as you are…even if you have just eaten pizza! You won’t regret it. Find a way to get there and trust God that this place will be the positive change you need.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I want to encourage all the beginners…I truly could not do one push-up or hang on the bar and hold my knees up for even 5 seconds when I started. I was sooo weak, so if I can change then anyone can. Trust the coaches, even if they think you should try something you never would dream of….like a competition, a challenge, or participating in the Open. Coach Trey convinced Natalie and I to participate in a competition which we ended up winning! We both were scared out of our minds and I think we both pushed ourselves really hard with eating Paleo and in the daily WODs to prepare. I realized how much support from the coaches and the members and of course my family that I had. I am one blessed girl for all this box has done for me!

“Folks, Crossfit has been wonderful. It started when our middle son came home on a Friday evening, tongue dragging the ground. I asked him, “Where have you been?” He said “#$^&#&*^& CROSSFIT.” I asked a few more questions; The next morning I met with Jordy at the place and signed up. I’m an oldMarine and I thought I can do anything (I really can). Well, Monday morning, I was humbled. As simple as it seems, I could only step up on a 45# weight, not jump. Pull-ups weren’t happening either. However, I stayed with it; not being able to do this only increased my efforts. The folks in the classes were/are great, not but support. The coaches never gave up on me; they pushed me and kept me motivated to continue on. That was a year and a half ago. A couple months in, I completed MURPH, which really motivated me. I can now jump on a 24″ box. While I can do a whole lot more than I was able to do 18 months ago, I still have a long way to go. 6 months ago or so my wife began and we kind of work off each other.

I’ve met a lot of great folks and look forward to going every morning.

Thanks to Jordy and the whole coaching staff, y’all are an inspiration!”

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
September 28, 2014 my wife ask for me to pay for her to do On-Ramp as an anniversary gift.
Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
I knew little to nothing about CrossFit.
What do you love most about CFSL?
Wow, where do I start! I love the count down from ten before a workout, gets me pumped up. There’s also all the cool people that attend class and motivates you to go pass your limits. And I think I speak for everyone when I say we have some of the most outstanding coaches ever. I mean I always feel better that I walked through the doors and gave all I had for an hour! I could really go into details about how each coach Inspires me, but just know y’all making a difference. In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
Crossfit has improved my life outside the box in so many ways, it’s unbelievable. I know I can overcome anything that comes my way. I’m always thinking of ways to attack different challenges throughout my day. Most important being able to show my kids how important it is to be healthy and do things not necessarily the easy way, but to work for what you want!

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?
I do every time I hear some co-workers, friends and family talk about how much they benched or curled! Crossfit prepares you for anything. I farmers carry my kids every morning out of bed. Maisie asked how long I plan on doing that and I replied, ” as long as I’m doing Crossfit I may have another 10 years left!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Growing up I was always so heavy and chubby! It was cute for only so long. I would have issues sleeping without sweating and I hated summer or better yet any day hotter than 70 degrees! If you ever been on the heavy side summer was like torture because clothes never felt right and pants always was to long. I started losing weight during college and continued after, but Crossfit changed my mind and my diet! And to think my wife never ask for anything, but for our first anniversary she ask for me to pay for her to do Crossfit and of course I couldn’t let her do it alone! I will never regret giving her that gift and my daughters always mocking me by doing squats, push ups and sit-ups at home! I know their always watching so I’ll teach them with actions rather then words.

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
I do not have an exact date, but my Wodify says 3/6/15. I think I was part of the first few people that signed up when CFSL opened the doors. I guess you could say that I’m kind of a big deal? *just kidding*

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
I was part of a box in downtown Lafayette for over a year and hoped and dreamed that something would open up closer to Opelousas. I drove about a half hour everyday to feed my Crossfit addiction. I knew about CFBB but it was a bit further and out of the way compared to the box I attended. When I heard CFSL was opening and Josh and crew were the ones opening it, I was sold and committed that second.

What do you love most about CFSL?
What’s not to love about CFSL? The location, the coaches, and the people. I came in to CFSL from over a year in another box thinking that I knew about Crossfit. Right off the bat I fell in love with the coaches sticking to a core methodology and being really knowledgeable in teaching a class of people from all walks of life and squeezing every inch of performance out of that person.

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
I’ve been a “gym rat” for many years and once or twice a year I would always hurt myself. The last time I hurt my back I could barely drive home from the gym. I went through all the process of MRI’s and x-rays and was told I had all these degenerative disk diseases, and sciatic nerve issues. During that time I started researching alternative workout methods and Crossfit was on the top of my list. It just happened that a guy I went to school with had a box in Lafayette. Needless to say, my doctor was not supportive of me doing crossfit because of my back. I started crossfit twice a week and that quickly turned in to 3 days, then 4 days, then 5. Once my core was strengthened my back pain and sciatic pain slowly diminished. This was a huge blessing in my daily life to just feel “normal” again.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?
After a year of talking about Crossfit to my friends and family, my wife and my sister-in-law joined. My son started at CFSL last winter in preparation for football. I have many friends and co workers that are now members of CFSL after word of mouth and them seeing a transformation in me and my family. There’s typically not a conversation that I’m involved in that crossfit does not come up in some way, shape, or form. It’s a way of life!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
The work and the dedication that the coaches put in at CFSL never go unnoticed. I enjoy the fact that not only am I challenged with the WOD, but I’m challenged by my coaches to make sure my form and well being is their top priority. I turned 40 back in August, competed in the Ragin Games, and continue to hit personal records with lifts and WODs. I love seeing the transformations that members go through on their crossfit journey. The community and a strong family backing that pushes you every single day is what makes CFSL a great place to enjoy life.

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
It will be one year on Oct 7 that I started CrossFit. My first day I started On Ramp with Bambi is the day my life changed. And has only gotten better with Jordy and the rest if the coaches help.

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
I had been suffering with severe back pain for years from a bulging disc that was compressing the nerves in my right leg. This made it difficult to drive even short distance. I tried ever treatment out there from chiropractor to shots. I was about to schedule surgery when I spoke with my coworker, my friend Lauri Chavis. She was talking about CrossFit and I told her that I did not think I could do CrossFit because of my back. She told me to come in and talk to Josh. After that my life changed. I’m thrilled to say no more back pain (except for the soreness after a work out, but it is a good soreness) and no more numbness in my right leg.

What do you love most about CFSL?
I love the people. All the coaches have taught me a lot. They are there for you no matter what to help you reach your full potential. I have made great friends that I can count on to help me make it through a workout. It feels like a family. No one is made to feel inferior. The last person to finish a workout gets the most cheers. I love this place and the people.

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
I’m able to do more things with my sons. I have more energy than ever. It has also help me at work handling patients. I’m still a ways off from my big goal, but I have achieved some of my smaller goals. I have had some set backs through the year, but I am determined. I will get there with my families help.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?
Yes definitely I would suggest joining. I would like people to know that CFSL changed my life and it can change yours. People should just try to forget the negative crap they heard and just try it.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am glad that I came in to talk to Josh and made a decision to commit to CrossFit. One of my best decisions. Thanks Josh! I am also grateful to have the most caring coaches, Jordy, Bambi, Alex, David, Josh, Trey, Jason. Y’all are amazing, awesome, the bombs. Love y’all all. And love my CrossFit family.

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
I started 14 months ago, with a text message from my sister for us to try it out together. Little did I know that I would fall in love with it and still be here today.

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
Well, I never have been much of an athlete before. I took dancing growing up and loved it but never was one to participate in sports in school. In fact, just never had the self confindence to try sports and was always the one opting out of PE in high school.

What do you love most about CFSL?
Where do I start…it is the best environment to grow as an athlete and a person. The coaches are there to help in every way and they will modify the workout to suit your abilities, as you get better and stronger they will adjust to your growing strengths. It’s like having a personal trainer there with you every step of the way.

The “community” of CFSL is amazing, everyone is there to see you do and be your best and the loudest cheers are for the last to finish, pushing you to get it done.

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
I feel so much better and my confidence has grown. I have always struggled with being underweight and since starting, I have gained 10 pounds of muscle and maintained it. If you are overweight, you will lose weight and tone up, if you are underweight you will gain weight and tone up.

Also, I suffered with headaches almost everyday before starting and now it is rare that I will get a headache. My Advil bill has gone down tremendously😜

As a working Mom, Cross Fit is the one thing that I do for myself, it is the only time my brain shuts off and focuses on just the workout. It is a great stress reliever!

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely!!! You will become part of a family and be hooked on Cross Fit in no time! Every day the workout is different so you meet and accomplish a new challenge every day. You will feel better mentally and physically, all while doing it with a great group of people!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you, to all of my coaches. Coach Jordy, Bambi, Josh, Alex, Trey, and David. Without you, none of this would be possible. My husband says I’m in the best shape of my life and I agree. I feel so much better. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

When did you start your journey?
July 2015

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner?
Definitely a couple of things…… I was never an athletic person so I didn’t think it was something I could actually do. I’m also a little timid so the idea of everyone watching me workout scared me.

If so how did you overcome that obstacle?
Watching the transformation in my husband was very inspiring! He was always talking about so I decided to buy CrossFit shoes I knew once I spent 130.00 on shoes I had to at least give it a try!

What do you love most about CFSL?
The coaches and community first then the everyday accomplishments.

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
It has given me so much where do I start? I feel so different inside and out! I have a lot more confidence, energy, and I feel healthier than I did before. CrossFit even cured my daily headaches.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so why?
Yes Definitely! I do, I probably wear people
out talking about it. Ha!!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I feel so blessed to be part of the CrossFit St. Landry community! I still get nervous before every workout but that melts away as soon as the coaches start the class. We have some great coaches and I can’t thank y’all enough. You guys turned me into a CrossFit athlete. I guess it’s never too late….at almost 40 years old I’m the strongest and healthiest I’ve ever been.

When did you start your journey with CrossFit St. Landry?
February 2015, starting CrossFit was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Was there anything that prevented you from joining our community sooner? If so, how did you overcome that obstacle?
No, I wish you would have come to our community sooner!

What do you love most about CFSL?
The coaches take you as is. It’s not just for the top athletes. It’s for the person that wants to change their life. No matter what shape you are in, and the people you workout with “Encourage you.”

In what ways has CrossFit improved your life outside of the box?
I am a more confident person. I feel physically and mentally stronger. I am also rebuilding my self-esteem. I was trapped in an ill-unhealthy body.

Would you recommend joining CFSL to a friend? If so, why?
I do recommend it to all my friends and family. Some of my co-workers have joined other workout programs just because of my progress with CrossFit. When you are physically well, you can be mentally well.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am so thankful to all the coaches at CrossFit. You have helped me “Jump start my life.” I have learned something from each of you.
